Born in Childers Queensland – I spent a beautiful childhood of sun, sea and no surf - swimming, water skiing and beach walking.….
With such a love of the ocean, it is no wonder it features heavily in my paintings.
Much of my holidays were spent walking on the beach collecting shells and anything interesting to take home and add to my collection.
Moving to Sydney was short lived as I missed the easy going lifestyle of Queensland which was my inspiration.
Traveling up the Queensland coast as a teenager was exhilarating, with lots of fun and adventure; ending up in Mount Isa to start my 20 year career as a sign writer. I moved to Mackay after 2 years as I hated being away from the coast. My boss was a wonderful mentor as sign writing was like being an artist, so it was like doing an apprenticeship with an artist. You had to physically hand paint everything – no computers then - the digital age was just beginning when I decided to start a family.
When I was over climbing ladders I turned my attention to painting and ceramics, it was much easier working from home with my new boy.
Now 20 years later and after quite a few different studio locations - I’ve finally found a work space which is just about perfect…it’s a little hidden away, but I probably need that for the peace and solitude I need for painting.
My concentration now is primarily on paintings, prints and platters. Planning exhibitions and completing orders.
I have also started my Masters of Contemporary Art with University of Tasmania as an external student, to be finished in 2010. My project is billboards, which is quite ironic.
